NSMBA Fivers
As some of you may know the NSMBA puts on a series of great social events throughout the spring and summer called the Fiver Series. Basically it is an excuse to meet up with your friends, have some awesome food and a beer or two but you first have to ride your bike down some awesome trails that you are timed on. I suppose you could call this a “race” and if you wanted to be more specific you could call it and “Enduro Race”. What is an Enduro? It is a selection of timed segments connected together by transfer stages that are not timed. Your overall time is the sum of those timed segments.
Many of the members and leaders have attended the events in the past and this year is no different so we are undertaking a new initiative for June. Basically the advanced group will become the Fiver group as most of the people in that group are attending the events anyway. This gives us the opportunity to show up as a group and have a couple of ride leaders there to give support to those who have never done a race before. In no way do you need to be an advanced rider but you should have knowledge of the trails for the night (pre-riding is a good idea but not required) which are announced a couple of days before the race. These events are very low key and designed to be inclusive of a variety of skill levels.
For June we will meet up at the registration which is at Parkgate Park and head up as a group. Plan to be there 5:45-6:00pm so that we can be rolling by around 6:15. We may split into 2 groups depending on how many show up.
Recommendations and requirements:
- Intermediate or higher skill level
- Knowledge of the trails, ridden them before or comfortable with new trails
- NSMBA membership, can sign up there
- $5 for each event
- Be self-sufficient and able to get out on your own if you have a mechanical, there is on site medical aid if required.
