The Officially Unofficial Night Rides are Back!
But they're different from our regular season rides. Please read this important information...
A few Important Warnings:
- These are unofficial rides! NSRide will help organize through the forum, but we can not provide the same guarantee of multiple ride leaders and trained first aid attendants. Night rides are super fun, but all attendees need to be prepared to care for themselves and each other!
- The night rides are NOT for learning to ride. These are suited to Advanced Chill and higher riders!
- A basic familiarity with the trail network is a must.
- Due to the lack of light and wet weather, the risk and difficulty increase compared to any regular season ride.
- The riding time is limited to battery run times - Typically no longer than 2 hours
- Check often to see that your bike is in good working order and carry an extra jacket and gloves. Fixing a bike in the dark sucks!
- Riding at night is spooky ... just sayin'
Riders must:
- Be familiar with and comfortable riding the trails. Usually no double blacks on the night rides, but singe blacks are common.
- Have their own light system which can last at least 2 hours.
- Carry one back-up light (ie Petzl headlamp).
- Charge the batteries in full before the ride.
- Have a bike in good working condition.
- Check the forum to see any schedule changes or cancellation.
Lights:
- You need at least 400 lumens. This is the absolute minimum.
- You should have 2 lights - one on your handlebar and one on your helmet.
- If you only have 1 light, it is advisable to have it on your helmet.
- A flash light or basic commuter bike light as your main light will NOT work.
- Lights with more of a flood beam than a spot beam are usually preferred.
- Petzel head lamp as a back up light, but not as a main light.
- Remember you have a light on your head. This is one time when it is polite not to look at the person you are talking to.
- You can never have too much light, but you can have too little light!
Rides:
- Leave promptly at posted time.
- Because the night rides are smaller than regular season rides, we will sometimes mix up the meeting locations, please check the forum regularly.
- Winter can suck! Definitely check forum by 4 pm for any ride cancellations in case of questionable weather.
As Always:
- Please attach the plastic membership card in a visible location on your backpack. This is for the protection of the club and its members.
